The National Youth Brass Band of Scotland welcomes applications from all young brass and percussion players under the age of 21. While most players are Scottish we have, in recent years, welcomed instrumentalists from Germany, England, Northern Ireland and the Faroe Islands. Competition to get into the NYBBS itself is tough and first-time applicants are often disappointed. Our three-tier system, however, means that a space is almost always available for those who don’t make it into the top band. Our Reserve Section (70-strong in 2007) is of a very high standard and provides first class tuition from experienced players and teachers. For younger, less-experienced players, our newly established Training Band is the vehicle to provide the necessary help and encouragement to instil a desire to progress in banding. Entry to the NYBBS for the 2008 Japanese tour will be by invitation only and the band is unlikely to include any new members. There may be spaces in some sections however and anyone wishing an invitation is welcome to contact Neil Cross, Course Director, at ncrosslanark@aol.com. Please provide details of instrument(s) played, experience etc. Players wishing to enrol on the Reserve/Training Band course can do so by downloading an enrolment form (See links below). Online application is also possible via www.sama.org.uk although the old-fashioned paper version is still preferred! Courses are normally held in the first week of August but the imminent tour of Japan has necessitated a change from our usual schedule. We look forward to receiving enrolment forms from new members. |
